Bangkok trip 2011

These are my very few "successful" takes using my dad's canon AE-1 program. Trip to Bangkok was unexpectedly exciting and fulfilling, given that I've spent my entire MacBook savings during the mini getaway and all. This was also my first time experimenting with a vintage slr. With plenty of trial and error, I ended up underexposing most of my films....which is sadly wasted, you can see nothing on the films at all to say the least. some pictures were so overexposed and many of them were rather 'grainy' which i did not expect them to turn out that way since many reviewed that the portra 400 isn't grainy... but because i didn't get it right... i think i'll just shoot with the gold series for now, as amateur, it's better for me to not waste money on professional films when i'm not at that level yet myself. having said that, my dad did promised me that he would teach me how to use the AE1 program properly. i'm feeling stoked cause it feels that i'm learning photography from the scratch!

Now, back to the trip, upon our arrival in Bangkok, after checking in at Asia Hotel, we went straight to MBK Center. If you're a technology or phone fanatic, this mall would best suit you. I've gotten alot of Cath Kidson's casing there, and even got my BB's housing changed! If you happen to be using a Blackberry and thinking on changing the housing, look no further, there's an infinite quantity of many amazing colours you can choose from! they are very affordable and service is efficient! Later, we pop by Central World to do some window shopping, well for me, but Joanna got plenty of shopping done there. Central World is much like malls in Singapore, you can find stores like Topshop, Forever21, Kate Spade.... well, you get the idea. Later that night we drop by Siam Paragon, this mall is also similar to Central World. I spent close to 4,000baht there on a pair of JC shoes, but it is deifnitely much cheaper there, without the shipping fee and with a lower currency.

The second day we went to Platinum fashion mall and let me tell you, this place is a shopping paradise!!! Vendor there sells not only a wide variety of apparels, but also bags and shoes! you'll literally shop till you drop! and over there at Platinum, it is alot more worth it if you buy 2 pieces and above because they mainly do wholesale there, so you can mix and match around with what the shop has to offer, and at a very good deal too! Because we were practically broke with just 2hrs of shopping(imagine that!), we went back to our hotel to sleep away our time, our code became "we have the time, we just don't have the money" so yes, if you step into Platinum, this might happen to you too.

On our last day in Bangkok, we revisit the places we already been to to do our last minute shopping, I'm quite embarrass to say that i did'nt have had any thai food when i was there, yes, not even tom yum. we had alot of japanese and western food...which by the way is awesome!!!! if you're running low on cash and feeling hungry, go to their 7eleven, buy some porridge or any ready prepared bento/rice. It may be cheap, but don't be fooled by the price, it actually taste great, period. Transport wise, dont be afraid to take their Sky Train, it is very easy to get by, and probably the safest and cheapest. if you must, like go to places like Platinum, where they don't have a direct train stop for the mall, either spend a little more on a cab, or have some thrill with the tuk-tuks. Personally, i ADORE the tuk-tuks, you have to give it a go at least once when you're in Bangkok. But nevertheless, I don't really have much preference on the transport, since me and my friend did alot of walking around bkk, their malls arent that hard to spot if you stay at the right hotel. The people there are really nice, be sure to try saying hello or to thank them in their language, hello would be sawadika for the girls, sawadikup for the guys, thankyou would be kapkunka for the girls, kapkunkup for the guys. this will actually bring smiles to their faces and they may even strike a conversation with you! Some of them will understand english, or even chinese for that matter, so it's all good if you cant find your way around Bkk. Now, i need to plan another trip there again. Typing out all this just makes me miss it even more...

Classes are starting in a few days...and for all we know, projects are already flooding in to our system... this is gonna be one hell of a semester, i can feel it.

impromptu day.

so many awesome discoveries we made that day! We traveled all the way to the east to catch Monte Carlo, went to the nearest Ikea there, then to Chinatown to get Viv's G12. And because of that, we found ourselves enchanted by the place we stepped into. FIRST THOUGHT, ARE WE IN CHINA? HAAHHAHAHA. We literally felt like tourists! It was hilarious!!!! we went everywhere wow-ing at everything there. The food in Ikea didn't quite satisfy me so I had to drag Viv with me to another place for dinner. Come to think of it, we were pretty adventurous that day. We were getting bored at meeting at the same old place, same old time, shopping at the same old places. I guess there are still many parts of Singapore still waiting to be explored. In a week or two i will be flying to Bkk. which is totally wicked! I've never been out of the country without my family before. well once, but since it's a school thing, that doesn't really count now does it? I get nervous during flights. I just hope my trip will be smooth sailing one! till then! x
